Figure 1. Hellmayr 1929 considered the northeastern form of this species a separate taxon Vireosylva chivi agilis, but later merged it into Vireo virescens chivi, with a much broader distribution (Hellmayr 1935). This latter species is now included in V. olivaceus, which comprises also birds breeding in North America. See Ridgely and Tudor 1989.
