Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus)
03/08/2008; Mãe-da-lua reserve, Itapajé, Ceará, Brazil. 300 mm f2.8 lens.

Figure 1. Picture taken in poor light, ISO 400, exposure time 1/60, aperture f3.5.

In Mãe-da-lua reserve, in the dry season, marmosets can often be observed at a spring in the hills, where they come to drink early in the morning.

Habitat: In Ceará, Callithrix jacchus can be found in several habitats, including secondary arboreal Caatinga (RPPN Mãe-da-lua), dry mountain forest, small-holdings and gardens, and others.

Sound of Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus)
09/09/2007, 06:48. Mãe-da-lua private reserve, Itapajé, Ceará, Brazil. h2517. (c) H. Redies.
Sound h2517. A common call of the marmoset is the high-frequency phee whistle (Bezerra and Souto 2008). This sound can frequently be heard when a group of marmosets moves through the vegetation; it could be a contact call.

The waveform plot (upper part of figure above) shows that the amplitude of the phee is irregularly modulated. I am not sure whether this feature has any significance.

Sound of Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus)
17/10/2011, 06:35. Mãe-da-lua private reserve, Itapajé, Ceará, Brazil. h1616. (c) H. Redies.
Sound h1616. The note with label "A" looks similar to the tsik call of Bezerra and Souto 2008, and according to these authors, series of tsik notes are "used as a mobbing call against conspecifics from other social groups, ... and potential predators moving along the ground or in the trees..."(p. 684).

Sound "B" is named chatter by Bezerra and Souto 2008, and would be associated with "intra- and intergroup agression"(p. 684).

Sound of Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus)
05/09/2010, 06:26. Mãe-da-lua private reserve, Itapajé, Ceará, Brazil. h1550. (c) H. Redies.
Sound h1550. The note with label "A" is the same as the tsik in h1616. Sound "B" corresponds to the loud squeal and sound "C" to the trill of Bezerra and Souto 2008 (p. 685). The three sounds are often produced together, as in the above example.

Sound of Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus)
23/07/2012, 06:18. Mãe-da-lua private reserve, Itapajé, Ceará, Brazil. h2529. (c) H. Redies.
Sound h2529. I am not certain about the function of this vocalization, which ressembles a bird song. Corresponds to the twitter of Bezerra and Souto 2008.
